Financial Planning Services was set up in 1975 as the trading name of Mr Joseph G.P. Bonello, whose career in financial services started in 1960 with the then National Bank of Malta (today Bank of Valletta plc). In 1967 he had joined a company that had pioneered the equity-linked life insurance concept, rising through the management ranks till he left in 1975, to set up independently. On the 9th February 1977, Financial Planning Services became a Limited Liability Company.

Planning for continuity, Joe’s son Matthew joined the family practice in 1988 and his daughter Elaine joined in 1990.

In 1991, in line with the requirements of the Malta Stock Exchange Act 1990, Financial Planning Stockbrokers Ltd was set up. As a founder member of the Malta Stock Exchange, the company was one of the seven stock broking firms present on the Stock Exchange trading floor at the first trading session held on 8th January 1992.

In 2003, following the Malta Financial Services Authority’s (MFSA) becoming Malta’s single regulator, the stock broking company was merged into its parent company, Financial Planning Services Limited.
